Before having surgery, that requires any kind of pain relief (anesthesia), a general exam regarding safety and feasibility of anesthesia is mandatory. An important part in this process is the assessment of the past medical history and the individual perioperative risk. Depending on the extent of surgery required, the patient age and health, certain preoperative tests will be required, including: Laboratory tests, chest x-ray and an ECG.
