Research group: Medical Simulation and emergency medical management

This group focuses on emergency medicine, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and medical simulation. Apart from technical and therapeutic advances, evaluation of “human factors” play a key role. We not only put great emphasis on teaching the medical backround of the different algorithms in emergency medicine but also on implementing those algorithms effectively.
Medical education represents a large part of our work. Our research focuses on the evaluation of specific teaching models and the interaction of the participants during the training sessions. Complex tools measuring the interperasonal interactions and the physical forces involved are needed to conduct this type of research.

In ihrer Arbeit konnten die Forscher zeigen, dass es bei erwachsenen Patienten mit Herz-Kreislauf-Stillstand einen 20-prozentigen Überlebensvorteil gibt, wenn Laien vor Ort ausschließlich Herzdruckmassage ohne Mund-zu-Mund-Beatmung anwenden. Bis jetzt wurde von führenden Gremien die klassische Wiederbelebung mit Herzdruckmassage und Mund-zu-Mund-Beatmung empfohlen. Das muss jetzt offensichtlich überdacht werden.
