Clinical electives and final practical year (internship)

Clinical electives and final practical year (internship)

Information on Clinical Electives and the Clinical Practical Year

Clinical electives are typically offered during the semester, Easter break, and summer vacation of the Medical University of Vienna. International students may undertake their clinical elective or clinical practical year either as free-movers or via a mobility program.

We want to inform you that we are experiencing an extremely high demand and must, therefore, decline most applicants. Particularly in the context of electives, a random draw is typically used. We aim for direct selection without a random draw for the clinical practical year.

Application deadlines.

  • Clinical electives: Applications for the upcoming year must be submitted by August 1st.
  • Clinical practical year (Internship): Entry dates are announced in April of the preceding year. Applications are accepted until June 1.

The candidates will be selected based on the submitted application documents for August (clinical electives) and June (clinical practical year). x

Application Procedure and Necessary Documents

All application documents must be submitted as a PDF file, which includes the following:

  1. Letter of Motivation
  2. Preferred time periods and durations for clinical electives or desired entry dates for the clinical practical year (up to three), along with the preferred department (OR / Intensive Care Unit).
  3. Curriculum vitae (CV)
  4. Transcript of academic records (such as internships, elective courses, and educational achievements)
  5. Optional: Recommendation letter (e.g., invitation letter)
  6. Optional: Other relevant certifications

Active participation in our research groups is beneficial. For international students, a recommendation letter highlighting involvement in a research group relevant to our field will also be viewed favorably.
